![]() I would like by starting off by saying this was a lot better than the last girl boxing movie girl fight. The actors played a huge role for this the fights didn't look fake like they did in girl fight the sound effects where better and over all the plot of the movie was a lot better. Clint Eastwood in my opinion makes the movies he is in great because he always starts off talking down on the person and wants nothing to do with them. But then finds his heart and begins to make them great in what ever it is that they are doing. Like the scene that he found out a girl was in his gym he nearly had a heart attack. one of the most powerful scenes of the movie i think is the scene he agrees to train her but after that he wants nothing to do with her and says " Then you can go off and make a MILLION dollars i don't care." and you see how happy she gets and can tell that she will do anything to win and make him proud. ![]() another very strong scene in the movie is when she buys her mom the house and is so excited to show it to her and her mom was like discussed by it. She said she would of rater have the money and said she wasn't thinking i think this was trying to show that no one ever thought she was good enough throughout her life. This is definitely another scene that Frankie wants to help her so much more because he believes in her and wants her to show people she can do it. ![]() Frankie shows it even more at the end because he was the only one protecting her and at the hospital every single day. by far the strongest scene in the movie was the one she tells him i cant live like this not after what i have done i have seen the world. telling him she wants to die. And you watch Frankie sit at the end of the bed listening not knowing what to say or do just telling her he cant. In conclusion this movie got its point across clearly to never give up and if you want something go out and get it.

![]() This movie took a little different perspective then the rest mainly because the main character is a girl. All the other films we have watched have been about men becoming animals and crazy. But this film does a good job on just showing that this troubled teen has found a way to cope with her problems but at first no one thinks its right or OK so she ends up lying to her dad and steeling money from him to pay for the fighting lessons. From the first part of the movie Diana the main character has this protective state where she stands up for her friend that was getting treated poorly. at first you could of thought that she was just trying to fight but in the very next scene she does the same thing in the boxing gym protecting her brother who got cheap shoted in the ring. So i immediately knew that that was one of her traits shes will not let anyone close to her get hurt. ![]() Then throughout the movie we begin to realize that her dad had beat her mom and that she had actually a hard childhood. It was almost like she was a no one compared to her brother that her dad would do anything for her dad didn't have no respect for her in till the night he came to watch her fight. and it wasn't because he saw her fight it was because when she came home she beat the shit out of him and could of killed him. Diana then met this guy at the gym he she fell in love with as the movie goes on and both of them keep fighting they have both placed into the championship fight. And of course everyone besides Diana made a huge deal out of this saying its not fair she will get hurt and he didn't want to hit her because he loved her. But at the end of the day he just knew she was better and thats exactly what happened in the last fight she beat him. so the moral of the story was to never think you are not good enough if you want something go get it. ![]() I would like to start off by saying i enjoy this class. I took it because it was a required gen ed and didnt know how it was going to turn out but after the past couple weeks im starting to enjoy it. In my featured post im going to talk about the plots of a couple of the movies we have watched and some similar scene i think happen and have happened in all the boxing movies we have watched so far. All the fighters in the movies we have watched so far have come from nothing. When they have nothing they are a little bit more humble and respectful then when they become champion and begin the crash down to the ground. They all have a girl that they fall for and end up loosing besides the set up. When these fighters become famous and rich they begin to think that they are invincible and nothing else in the world matters besides them and the money. I think we see one of the best examples of this is the movie champion and raging bull. These two fight absolutely loose it and become monsters. They begin to assume things and think everyone is out to get them. ![]() Both of the scenes you just watched where at the ends of the movie with are understandable considering what has happened trough out the movie. But this next scene shows that these producers want you to see and promote that these boxers are animals. It shown what life in side the ring can do to you. this is even before all the money and fame swallows the fighters up. ![]() All the boxing movies also have some underground betting and gangsters in the movie. After watch the first couple i realized that the producers keep putting them in the movie for a reason and i think it is because they want to show that the boxers are like puppets they fight and fight but at the end of the day they are only getting a percentage because all the mobsters are the ones trying to make the big bucks. So in many cases they are having fighters throw the fights so they can make a quick buck. i also think that all the actors where picked specifically for all the movies because there backgrounds fit the movie script spot on. Im excited to see what else these movies bring us and cant wait to see why.
![]() Wow did this movie top all the rest for me. This did not feel like i was watching a boxing movie it felt like a was watching a mob classic like two of my favorites good fellas or casino with these two actors Robert DE Niro and Joe pesci. they are my two favorite mob movie actors especially Joe pesci i love the way he presents himself and the way he uses his bad language to get you laughing and involved. Speaking about the boxing aspect of the movie this one had a very similar plot as the rest of them. We can tell from the start of the movie that Robert de niro was filled with rage and was going to do things his way and his way only. He doesnt want to wait for anything or anyone he wants everything now even his steak as you can see in this scene. At first i thought this could just be happening because of the early stages of the movie and not really having much so tensions are high and stressful but then this happens later in the movie with talking about something very simple again his weight. he repeatedly ask for his coffee over and over and over again in till he gets it he doesn't care if its cold hot or even done he wants it now. ![]() as the movie goes on he begins to become rich and famous and like all the other movies then the fighters begin to deteriorate and loose everything. He thinks his wife is sleeping with everyone even his own brother so what does he do he beats both of them up. He loses the relationship with his brother but his wife stays with him which was interesting twords the end of the movie you can tell the producers wanted to make is clear that he hit rock bottom by making him 50 pounds heavier at the least and showing that he opened a bar and was doing stand up comedian. Which then made him desperate to the point where he was cheating on his wife with what ever he could a 15 year old. Now that's what put him over the edge and made him really loose everything he had his wife left and took the kids and he was scrapping the diamonds of his champion ship belt to try and get money. ![]() I Liked this movie a lot because it took a different look on the whole fighting scene. This was everything that was going on outside of the ring. I love movies that are mob influenced and anything that has to do with the underground businesses. I don't think this movie could of did a better job by making terry an old fighter and especially the fact that his boss when he was in the ring is now his boss out side the ring... johnny the mob boss. You can tell throughout the movie that johnny controls everyone and pretty much everything. You can see that johnny likes terry a lot because he will do anything he says and has made him a lot of money in side and out side the ring. i Find it interesting that they make terry's brother is johnny's right hand man. And we see that at the end of the movie he was supposed to be killed by his brother Charley but he let him go which ended up getting himself killed for not listening to the boss. i also think that if terry was as brave as he was at the end of the movie he could of got him and his brother out by standing up to johnny. The scene from YouTube below shows you the power that johnny had and the indimidation that he had on all his workers. at the end out the scene there is a line that stands out to me the most its the sentence that says " you have a real friend here and don't forget it. Why should he forget it? then terry says yea thanks johnny" To me this is johnny showing terry that he basically owns him and will treat him like a friend as long as he listens and does what he says. ![]() this next video is crucial because its terry finally expressing himself to charlie telling him he could of been somebody. But instead they ended his fighting career just to make a quick buck. He refers to himself as a bum also and talked down on himself the whole video. I think that is why charlie let him go so easily besides the fact that it was his brother it was because he knew he was wrong and should of looked after him more and not looked at him as just a profit. ![]() After watching 3 boxing movies i have realized the plots of the movies are all very similar. The boxers come from nothing no money, washed up and also have a girl or multiple throughout the movie effecting the emotions of the fighter. i have found some key scenes showing that money mentally destroyed midge and made him a terrible person. He doesn't care about anyone's feelings all he cares about it money he thinks he is unstoppable and that nothing can tear him down as long as he has money. He begins to turn on the only person who has been with him from the beginning of the film his brother when his brother tries to help him and tell him he is basically becoming into a monster like all the rest of the fighters. I think in many cases midge starts to become very sensitive and has no trust in anyone. His thinking is i have to hurt you before you hurt me he was pushing people out of his life for the pure satisfaction of knowing he is getting the most money and doesn't have to split it with anyone else. ![]() This scene is huge for the movie it is midge doing what she did to him in the beginning of the movie when he had nothing but the cloths on his back. But now that hes champion she loves and cares for him so much. when midge says this scene it think the audience gets his point real quick " do you know what a lady is.... of course you don't how could you do you know anything about sculpting or the opera noooo all you know how to do is spend money so long Gracie". I also found that reading the article we have on blackboard really gave us some back round on the actor that played midge and he was almost just acting like himself which is really sad in ways. Here is the quote that stood out to me the most. " When he reached adulthood he did what every other young man did: he fought the war - and eventually returned home to what? A loving family? What could he possibly owe to them or anyone else? Midge had been dumped on all of his life. He'd been rolled, robbed, cheated, chastised, taken for granted, and swindled. How was he expected to treat others? Still, Midge took on the thankless role of provider for his mother and brother, and bore them no grudge. Sure, he stepped on people along the way, but didn't he get stepped on first"? ![]() I want to focus on the pride and the way of living in this movie. i narrowed it down to these two scenes. The first scene represents the way of living back then no one wanted a hand out they wanted to earn it themselves. They would do what ever it took to become rich and successful even if it meant living with nothing in till it happened. in the article " Fear Of Public Sphere by Marc P.Singer" he says By 1949, the outside world is increasingly seen in these films as a dangerous, corrupting, entangling place: the hero must avoid these dangers and persist on his own, literally relying on no one and nothing but his own two fists. This quote is huge for this movie because that is exactly what was happening in the movie. Right before this scene i posted was when his mom was talking to the financial aid lady getting money Charley then kicked her out saying they do not need anything. This second scene i posted is irreverent besides a couple sentences right before the end. when they are talking about the deal for the title fight shorty proceeds to say. " Roberts will be telling us what and when" Then Charley says " So what everybody has been telling us what and when the guy who owned the arena, the guy who owned the fighter, the guy who owned the books, cheat mobsters, gangsters, guys who owned nothing. WE have been fighting for peanuts and eating them" This is charley so fed up that he doesn't matter how much he loses or what percent he has to give up he just wants the title fight. He wants to show everyone that he did it. He achieved everything he said he was and didn't need handouts to support his mother and his mistress. he just wanted to finally be at the top with all the money and no worries but as we all no the rest of the movie did not go and end that way. i want to focus the fight scenes. and how the movie focused a lot on showing us that his spouse didn't want him to fight and was doing anything she could to avoid the fight. But wherever she would go the fight would be on the radio. She also passed a what looked like a arcade she was smiling happy and then saw the little fighting game and she was instantly reminded of the fight and was disappointed again. For the fight scenes the cameras where always located at the feet(stance) of the fighter or up tall at the face of the fighters. You where also found looking up at the fighters. The cameras where always faced so it looked like they where coming right at you for the best feel of the fight. |
